| One of the coolest things I got to do while I was deployed to Bosnia was take a 4-day pass to Italy. I went with two other guys, Capt Joe Bland, and SMSgt Ervin Freeman. We flew into Aviano AB in Northern Italy and caught a train down to Venice. We walked around and found a sleazy, expensive hotel to stay in for the night. In the morning we took another train to Rome and found another sleazy, expensive hotel to stay in. While in Rome we decided to rent some scooters for transportation to get around and see the sights. Although we each had multiple near-death experiences we had a blast and was one of the more memorable times in my life. Rome has some incredible things to see, and although it's a very old and dirty city I would like to go back some day and spend about a week seeing all the things we didn't have time for. We caught another train back to Venice late the next day and stayed in the same sleazy, expensive hotel and then caught another train the next morning back to Aviano. We didn't get to spend hardly any time in Venice. Maybe some day I can take Casey there on vacation and experience more of the romance that Venice has to offer. |
